As more call centers make their way onshore, call center hiring is getting a boost. The latest company to announce its call center expansion in the U.S. is Xerox, a provider of business process and document management solutions to enterprises. The company will be opening a call center in Monroe County in Webster, New York and will be looking to fill 500 newly created jobs with residents from Webster and surrounding areas. The call center hiring initiative will bring 350 jobs to the area in 2012 and an additional 150 jobs in 2013. “Xerox is a global leader that could have gone anywhere in the world to expand their business, but they chose New York because our state is rapidly becoming the place to be for businesses,” Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said in a statement. “By forging successful public-private partnerships like we have with Xerox, we can leverage state resources to generate sustainable economic growth and long-term job creation.” Monroe County is the perfect place for a call center as it offers a highly skilled workforce, which is enhanced by an attractive quality of life. Xerox’s expansion and call center hiring is a testament that the state is moving in a positive direction, improving its business climate and getting New Yorkers back to work, New York officials said. The new call center project will be using $5 million in Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits and a $1 million Economic Development Fund grant from Empire State Development, company officials said. The project includes the renovation of a portion of the building on the Webster campus, as well as the purchase of IT systems and equipment. The project, worth $4.3 million in total, will also create a 23,000 square foot state-of-the-art call center. Currently, Xerox and its subsidiaries employ approximately 10,000 workers in New York State, including 6,400 in Monroe County. The company serves clients in more than 160 countries.
